MII Clamps Down On Mobile-Fixed Line Crossover Services
2006-12-22

Ministry of Information Industry (MII) released an announcement recently prohibiting services like PHS (Little Smart) roaming, Wu Xian Tong and IP special line access, Guangzhou Daily reports. According to MII, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA) and China Netcom (NYSE: CNC) cannot offer Little Smart roaming services. China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU) are also not allowed to offer Wu Xian Tong fixed line GSM services. Chinese telecom carriers must end these services before the middle of this month, said the MII announcement. MII will launch investigations to make sure the services are stopped beginning in July.
